While Iceland is a fantastic tourist destination, there are a few things you should know about the country and about making reservations in hotels or a guesthouse in Reykjavik.

Book Well Ahead

Guesthouses in Reykjavik will be difficult to find during the peak season so it is better that you make bookings in whichever hotel you wish to stay in well in advance. This will help you avoid unnecessary hassle on your arrival and will save you from being overcharged as well.

Use Credit Cards

You can use all types of international credit cards to book hotels or pay for services in Iceland as these are accepted at most places, even for paying for your cab. Many tourists not aware of this find themselves queuing up at currency offices to convert their money into Icelandic currency, which is the Kronur (ISK). No need for this as you can pretty much buy anything using your credit card.

Learn the Exchange Rate

Make sure you are aware of the current exchange rate of Kronur with the currency you usually carry around back home. Due to the economic conditions in Iceland, the value of Kronur is very less as compared to, for example, the US dollar. This means when making reservations in a guesthouse in Reykjavik you are quoted a few thousand Kronurs, then it probably equals to a few hundred US dollars, or even less.

Early Check-Ins

Do make sure whichever guesthouse or hotel you book offers early check-ins so that you can straight away move to your hotel when you land. This facility may not be offered by all hotels in Reykjavik.

Don’t be scared by the name, Iceland is not as cold as you would probably imagine. The climatic condition over here is mild as compared to countries like Sweden where temperatures can go as low as -30 degrees during winters. In Iceland, the temperatures can be similar to what one would get in England and Scotland.
The Northern Light Trips in Iceland are one of the top tourist activities and many enthusiastic visitors travel north from Reykjavik to witness this beautiful spectacle. If you are also planning to do the same, then here are a few packing tips so that you don’t land here short on some essential supplies.

What to Bring

Bring items that will keep your body warm. Though this is obvious but temperatures in the north will be lower than what you will face in the south of Iceland. Carry clothing items that are waterproof and also bring a pair of sturdy boots to help you walk on ice with ease.

Thermal insulated overalls work well over here. If you do not have the boots you can get them arranged by your tour operator. You will also require gloves, scarves, hats, caps, and a pair of shades to protect your eyes from the glaze of the ice during the day. Bring as a few extra pieces of underwear and socks, and try to bring clothes that you can wear in layers around your body with comfort without having them inhibit your movement.

Freebooters are the lawless adventurers who wouldn’t crowd onto buses to take a tour. They would seek a more adventurous root rather. So should you. Iceland is the beautiful place in Europe, especially in winter tides. Iceland is a relative new-comer to the global travel scene and, by comparison, is much less crowded but no less beautiful.

Why Iceland should be your Ultimate Destination?

If unspoiled nature and spectacular landscapes is your bag, look to Iceland. Crossing streams, driving on glaciers, sandy beaches, or taking you up close and personal with a volcano, that's what Iceland offers. On a clear day in Iceland you can see as far as your eyes permit in brilliant colours. You will see an amazing diversity of flora and fauna. You will get to experience nature as it should be: clean and unspoiled. You can even drink water from a stream, something I, sadly, wouldn't recommend almost anywhere else in the world. Read more...
